George Mason University, Arlington, VA. campus is scheduled to hold the second annual America Means Business event April 9th. The focus of the event is on how to start, manage, and grow a business. The University of Maryland doctors group, Faculty Physicians Inc., will pay $92,500 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit. The group was charged with failing to accommodate and terminating an employee with Crohn's disease who had asked for an extra unpaid day off. $4.7 million is being awarded to 16 Maryland companies to develop technology products with university researchers through the University of Maryland, College Park's Maryland Industrial Partnerships. Loyola University Maryland will be launching a masters degree in Emerging Media. The Master of Arts in Emerging Media will be offered primarily online beginning in the fall. The University of Maryland National Cupid's Cup Business Competition has announced its Semifinalists. The finalists will receive intensive coaching from successful entrepreneurs to prepare for the final competition. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will be awarding Maryland $2.4 million as part of a federal grant to put toward expanding its patient centered medical home program.
