Conservative leaders in Maryland argue that the state is in critical need of a better business climate as federal spending cuts begin creeping in. Virginia Tech is one of three mid-Atlantic universities, Tech, the University of Maryland and George Washington University, picked to set up a regional program helping to turn innovative research into new products. USB Payment Processing, a leading credit card processing company focused on helping small businesses succeed, today announced its entry into the online Group Buying category with the launch of My Business Network, a program focused on delivering unique deals and discounts to small businesses. One of Greater Washington’s largest general contractors, Turner Construction Company, will begin an eight-week seminar next month to give small business owners the inside scoop on how to land a subcontract and break through the gap that keeps many of them from becoming big businesses. University of Maryland, College Park and two other East Coast schools will share $3.75 million from the National Science Foundation to develop a regional hub for turning university research into marketable products and services.
