From around the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area comes the latest business news and announcements. The Virginia General Assembly has adopted a transportation funding package. It is expected to generate $850 million a year statewide for transportation, which will mean increases in taxes along the way. The film industry brings big business to Virginia. With recent films being shot on location in the state, the boom in business is expansive. As opposed to all the surveys which find that Maryland is a terrible state to do business in, recent studies that look at how business-friendly Maryland is compared to other states. Video Game developer Zynga, creator of many of Facebook's move beloved games, is closing down their Maryland office. The step will be taken as part of a larger consolidation. University of Maryland Board Regent John L. Young has resigned, leaving the board to find another regent in his place. Young joined the board in July 2009 and served on the Committee on Education Policy and Student Life and the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization. The University of Maryland, College Park will host the Dalai Lama in May. The university says the annual lecture series is part of its Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development program.
