The House Environmental Matters Committee is considering a bill that would expand the use of tax-increment financing. The University of Maryland, College Park landed a place on the Times Higher Education list of global reputation. UMD fell into the ranking group of 91-00. Harvard University ranked at 1 on the list. Maryland's foreclosure activity in February increased on a year-over-year basis for the eighth straight month, propelling the state to a top-10 national foreclosure rate. Maryland's transit department and labor agency are uniting to search out and train construction workers for a planned multi-billion dollar project for a Red and Purple line. The training will focus in jobs for heavy equipment operators, electricians, cement and brickmasons, carpenters and ironworkers. The end of a six-decade long population loss in Baltimore City ended in 2012, according to new estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Baltimore City had 621,342 residents as of July 1, the data shows.
