From around the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area comes the latest business news and announcements. Shamrock Farms broke ground recently on a $50 million manufacturing facility in Augusta County, Va. The new plant will provide Shamrock with dual manufacturing capabilities, allowing the company to respond to increasing demand for its dairy products. Red Sun Farms, a Mexico-based producer of hydroponic vegetables, plans to invest $30 million in its first U.S. high-technology greenhouse operation in Pulaski County, a move expected to created 205 jobs within five years. Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering for the third consecutive year ranks 24th among the nation’s best engineering schools for graduate studies, according to U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools 2014 survey. Seven years after opening the South Locust Point cruise ship berth and terminal, Maryland port officials have a problem: capacity, as in, not enough. Without expansion, the record-breaking annual statistics will plateau at about 100 cruises and 241,000 passengers a year. The University of Maryland is rethinking its plans to redevelop a 38-acre property across Route 1 in College Park from its main campus for undisclosed reasons. The George Washington University’s School of Business (GWSB) today announced a partnership with the world's leading education company, Pearson to develop and deliver courses for the new GWSB Digital Community MBA.
