From around the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area comes the latest business news and announcements. May is World Trade Month –  and a great opportunity to tell the story by featuring a local small business that competes – and wins – on the international stage. Specialty candy store, IT’SUGAR will open its first Washington, DC store in August 2013 with two additional retailers. Three Stafford residents hope to open a microbrewery in the county by the end of the year. Tim Bornholtz, John Viarella and Stan Johnson, each of whom has been home-brewing for at least 10 years, are working on plans for Adventure Brewing Co. Two new retailers will open this summer at The Village at Spotsylvania Towne Centre, the owners of the Spotsylvania County complex announced Thursday. The Future Founders Foundation, a non-profit organization that inspires low-income youth in Chicago to explore new career opportunities, hosted their 8th Annual Future Founders Citywide Business Plan Competition on May 8. Paige Robinson, a freshman at George Washington High School was crowned winner of the Product Category. Conner Produce took home the big prize at the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 25th annual small business award ceremony Thursday, winning 2013 Small Business of the Year.
