iLive2Lead Prepares Girls to Enact Social Entrepreneurship Initiatives in Their Home Countries

WHAT:
Twenty-six outstanding young women leaders, ages 15-23, from 21 countries will attend the week-long iLive2Lead (iL2L) 2013 Young Women’s International Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., to learn leadership skills and develop social entrepreneurship action plans through an intensive program targeted to adolescent women.

Sponsored by the Office of Executive Education at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, summit highlights include a leadership training curriculum taught by professionals and academics in the field; inspirational talks by high-level professional women engaged in diplomacy, government, and business and non-governmental sectors; and a program designed to help women utilize the media to develop and present their personal messages.

During the summit, each young woman is asked to develop an “i Commit 2 Act Now” (iCAN) project in which she will work to demonstrate leadership in her community after she completes the program. Upon returning home, participants follow through on their commitment to lead, documenting individual iCAN projects on the iL2L website from which other young women worldwide can learn.

Many inspiring women will address the young delegates on leadership: Sally Shelton-Colby, former U.S. Ambassador; Kathy Bushkin Calvin, president and CEO of the U.N. Foundation; Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D- FL); Ann Sarnoff, COO, BBC America; and Patricia Harrison, president/CEO, Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The iL2L participants come from countries around the globe: Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saint Kitts and Nevis, South Africa, United States, and Zimbabwe.
